School Admissions Policy
Admission Priorities – Our Lady of Grace School is a Catholic school in the Diocese of Gary open to all families who desire a Catholic education for their children. Priority is given to practicing Catholic families already registered in the school or parish, to families from neighboring Catholic parishes without a school, and to all others as space is available.
Age Requirement – Students must be five years of age by August 1st for admission into kindergarten. Preschool students must be 3 years of age by August 1st and fully bathroom trained.
Application – Applications for Our Lady of Grace School are available at the end of January each year.
Records and Reports – For admission, parents are required to present:
- The child’s birth certificate
- Baptismal certificate
- Evidence of compliance with immunization requirements
- Health assessment form
- Copies of the last report card
- Standardized test scores and/or Indiana test results
- Any support service evaluation reports
Applications are considered incomplete until all records are received.
Academic Readiness and Grade Placement – Prior to admittance of a child at Our Lady of Grace School, the administration shall have the right to test the student and/or to require a written recommendation from the prior school. Test results will be used to place a child in a proper grade level. Students not recommended for promotion in their previous school may not be accepted to the next grade at Our Lady of Grace.
Registration – Registration of all students takes place in February. All currently enrolled students are required to re-register each February. Open registration for new students takes place the last two weeks in February. A non-refundable registration fee is due annually for each student. The registration fee assures a place for the following August.
All new students are admitted on a probationary basis.
